Yeah, just a few blocks of water to allow people to safely jump down.

okay we're on the same page then. So how about villagers? Can they be protected? Can it be done without protecting all mobs? Do you even want trading with villagers at spawn?

Well, I think it would make it a bit simple to just have it there.
But then again it would make it a lively spawn, with villagers going around.
Whether it would work technically I have no idea, haven't tried out 1.3 yet.
I say if we do this then we do it without villagers first, and then after 1.3 has come we see if we want to add villagers and if it's technically viable.

Soo.. sorta bump
Any opposition to turning spawn into Rev's village + a wall?

I think having a village at the spawn isn't a bad idea - but it shouldn't be too hard to get back in. That way people might actually have a reason to visit spawn from time to time (we could hold events or challenges there).

imho, just don't really like it, I am comfortable with spawn the way it is.

I'd rather spawn be unwelcoming so we don't want to stay, but nice enough we're able to go to greener pastures. So, at the actual spawn area, we can have a nice place, but outside should be a wasteland.

Decided to not do the protected water area around it anyway, figure water is such a pain in the ass to remove regardless, and it looks natural and properly griefed like this.
