I'm not talking about minecarts just the mobs. And in the real mulriplayer software the portals worked with items and mobs like they were suppose to. I only mention the rails cuz that's how i plan to get my mobs all the way out to my island, but can't because i can't get the mobs through the portal to the railway.

MisterStrawman's gold grinder seems to work just fine, and it's based on portals...

by that could you mean it uses the portal's ability to spawn pigmen next to them? That was a feature added before they added mob ability to pass through portals, as a way to make it seem like pigmen were breaking through. But it's just random spawning they aren't actually passing through the portal.
