Quite the contrary, we were one of the best bands in the country. We were dedicated, and my class-year was the last to really have our "golden age". The school cut back on the band because 1. The school overall didn't care about the band. and 2. They needed to cut something. Band or the football team. Guess which got picked.

Band... yeah dude if it was a public school, makes sense. A lot of public schools don't have band or anything musical, let alone arts that much.

I consider myself lucky to have had a trombone already, and a school band to play in. I remember the first year that kids could join band, we had near 150 kids in band, after a year, we were down to 80, and after another, 50. About 30 saxes first year, maybe 25 drummers, 35 flutes, 3 trombones. "cool instruments for cool kids" ;)

In 7th grade we all had to choose band, string ochestra, or choir. I did choir so i don't know shit about playing brass or wood winds. I picked up the keyboard in high school and i dabble in anything i can get my hands on I suck at guitar but recently found the ukelale easy to play. And bloob that sax solo 1:14 i belive was a trombone solo

Lucky folk like our public school systems... Instead of learning foreign languages, which got cut out of a lot of the grade levels a good while back, like I mean we had Spanish in first grade, never since, til high school, the schools have a band, an ensemble, and a chorus. And a theatre program. Personally, I would rather be learning useful languages at elementary/middle school than singing with some little folk. Thank god our highs offer languages though.

yeah, a lot of kids will stereotype themselves to instruments without knowing it. A lot of preppy straight a girls or asian chicks will choose a flute for some reason....it's real fucking annoying because it's that or the saxaphone.......trombones are for the cool guys usually, and the drummers are just the retarded kids who can't do jack shit, can't count, and always mess up... oh and that's just how it is for my band.

@Rev wait lemme check that again...oh WAIT A MINUTE. Sorry, this is a wind ensemble that I posted that was playing. Even though my band is real imbalanced in terms of instrumentation, but anyways that e flat saxahorn part probably was converted into a trombone part....a lot of different instruments play similar parts when there aren't enough players or not a specific player. And for some reason most of the good bands that are playing in the videos (Not crappy shitty grade 5 bands) are wind ensembles.

We're lucky enough to have a bass guitarist, as well as a keyboard/xylophone. To top it off, we've got the same number trumpets as trombones, and about 8 times more flutes than the two combined. Balanced bands are great...

Why the fuck do so many people choose flutes??? It kinda pisses me off.. i think the girls want the most girly instrument that they can get, instead of going with something unique like a contra-bass saxophone or french horn...

Well, our xylophonist is a girl, and last year, we had some varied females - baritone saxophones, trombone, and similar things. But yeah, we have a lot of flutes. We had a guy that played the flute a long while back... Everyone thought he was a homosexual... Everyone was right...
