Lone: Why are you assuming the admins will necessarily reset /world? Just make your case that it should be a bit of a wasteland to keep the total noobs out and I'm sure they'll listen. You keep assuming the absolute worst case scenario about everything I say, and when there isn't a worst case scenario to be found, you just start acting like some minor problem like making it easier to move will be the death of the server. I would be perfectly happy with, as you say, more people moving within 5K of spawn. I have an alt who lives 150 blocks away right now. The problem is that overall on the server it's not worth it to make the long trip there when you can't do a permanent base there anyway. This means that the few people who do go often don't have many people to interact with. It's a whole cycle of problems that you can't solve just by telling people to move closer to spawn. Remember, people have been moving far out for a long, long time. The PvP world was one of the attempts at ameliorating the situation, and the obvious truth is that the current setup of /world is failing at this.

Melvin: That has many of the same problems as a /spawn command. I suggested that before, and people pointed out that noobs would end up being slaughtered by people in diamond armor. Lone also considers it retarded for some reason, not entirely sure why. I see where you're coming from but ultimately it's not worth it. People seem to think I'm joking or something when I say the spawn in /world could be in a desert. The regular world spawn is only unlivable for a few hundred blocks. Just generate a few /worlds on the large biome setting until you get a sizable desert in the center, and the effect would be exactly the same. Hardcore players could also easily burn down any trees that happen to be in sight of the spawn in a day or two anyway.

Morl0ck: I like that idea, but how does it fit in with my proposal? Would there be a separate arena world with contests like that? Would there be one big /world, with points like you described? Or do you not like the idea of bigger/more PvP Worlds and just want to make those changes to the /world of the size and setup it currently is?

PvP world was a method of catering to people who don't want to get X-raided and people who want to build. The point being that if you want to interact with people, move closer to spawn. More people at spawn = More Bases at Spawn = More raiding ect.

Like I've already said, it's not as simple as just telling people to move to spawn. The travel time and chance of getting griefed are just too high to get many people to move there. And until many people do, for most people there won't even be a reason to. I've personally moved one of my accounts to spawn and am working with some small teams there, but that's about the best I can do. It won't matter though if a few people move there every now and then, the cost is high enough that enough people will stay away that a permanent community will never form. So why not just let people meet and do stuff in /world?

I mean you have to admit the server isn't exactly at it's peak. Nobody interacts much except a few small teams hidden way out, and we're well below peak population. I'm not talking about a wave of noobs, I just want a chance to interact with the people already on the server.

If people dont want to be near spawn, they won't move there. Are we seriously trying to force people to interact with each other now?

What?

When did I say I was forcing anyone to do anything? I just want an easier option for interaction to allow more people to do it. Please stop intentionally misunderstanding my words.

We're pretty much doing the equivalent of giving people the best of all the worlds and making it convineiet for everyone to be wherever they please.

That's an exaggeration. There's no /spawn or /tp commands. Switching between two locations is only "wherever you want" if you only ever want to be in two places.

Yes, I am trying to make the server more enjoyable and give some people an easier time of doing what they want. But it's intended to have a definite positive effect on the server. It's not like I'm trying to give out free diamonds or something for no reason. There's clearly a lack of player interaction these days. Things have become rigid and monotonous. This seems like a way to fix that.

Without a playerbase to test it on, it's not going anywhere soon. Better to look at other servers and see what has work or what systems are sucessful and see if we can't modify said systems to this server's specifications.

Yes, perhaps it would be more responsible to research this more first instead of relying on theories. I've looked at servers like moocraft and seen what awful things noob handouts do to them.

I looked it up and found a list of servers with multiworld installed. I think I'll look through and see if there are any that could apply as examples for our server. Here's the link if anyone else wants to look through:

http://minecraft-mp.com/plugin/multiworld/

(I haven't looked at this at all so I have no idea if it supports or undermines my argument, or if maybe all the servers are so different from here that nothing really applies. I want to have an honest discussion about this, so I figured I should post it.)

Amen. Before I took a break from minecraft I believe that the large sized (Maybe 1000x1000? or was is 2000x2000) pvpworld was still up and I personally remember enjoying that with tons of players from all around the overworld off the top of my head would be IMMERONE Dakkadok Kburn KennyKatsu Lonesoldier Revstoningpot (ithink) MrHoleDigger Gnat and lots of other regulars whom of which i cannot remember after a year. It was the right size to be able to build a small base to defend or go questing/raiding or meet up for games without having interruptions... most of the time ;)

I think an arena world would probably not be popular though unless it was like event based because with size like that anything you wanna do is just going to be ambushed

But I seriously agree that the PVP world is too small right now, it factors out several factors of gameplay that tons of different people enjoy, myself included

Also it was much cooler when your posit in the PVP world was saved as well, Good for snagging PVP loggers and remaining in fortressess (and yes in hidden stash bases, which still can easily exist in this 150x150 world)

So yeah. I'd personally love to have a nice big alt world again as well
