I think the biggest difference is how the server is played. There hasn't been any real change in activity over the past couple months, so I wouldn't be so quick to blame it on banned nether travel.

I think the biggest difference is how people play. In early 2011, I built my first base 1.2k blocks from spawn. At that time, 1k was a reasonable distance to avoid getting griefed, and it wasn't griefed until I gave the coords to it away. When I built my base 10k away, at that time that was an extreme distance and I was actually the very first to reach the 10k mark. In the first 6 months or so, people never really built far away. It seems that people have been moving ever further and further away, I mean we've got people now who are 7.5 million blocks away. It is important to note that there was no sprinting or horses at that time, boats were the standard method of transportation. So the world has obviously been made smaller, but still.

Other than that, we used to be a lot nicer. We had a safe trading hub, we have giveaways at spawn, we had the challenge you could complete for diamonds, we spawned trees around spawn. Not to mention all the players at spawn that would often hand you free gear and help you get started.

Im not trying to force anyone, I was saying what if.. and what -would- be cool.., ppl are still free to do and play how they like. And i agree with u pippenger, i dont care much about these landmarks, theres so much more fun and drama u cld have on these conditions near spawn..

At this point disabling anything is a bad idea.

i think it was the game that changed the most.. the game was more fun in beta.. and... (gona get killed for saying) the map is to old for bases near spawn.. u will not get anything new and living in the destroyed wasteland is not really inspiring

You're saying it would be nice if "we came back to spawn and we removed Enderchests and Beds". That's borderline forcing people to stay close to their bases. You want people to play in a caged-in clusterfuck.

The landmarks are practically what the US constitution is today, and they are what made me move out of spawn in the first place, the seemingly fabled land of Eden that was unreachable.

He's trying to encourage people to do it, not force anybody to do anything. If you don't like to play that way then just don't.

I understand that the way people play and the game itself has evolved over time to what it is now. What I meant was we don't need to rewind the server entirely and allow glitches that we used to allow in the past, we do need that rule in place even though I didn't really vote for it.

Hmm I didn't know it used to be like that, what me and pip are trying to do is similar to that but in an anarchy way. We've offered help to newcomers and planted trees around spawn, this is something that can affect the number of people on here.

I actually got help from Brent when I first joined, he went through the trouble to fetch me at spawn from his base, around a 3.6k walk in the nether. I'm not sure where I would be if it wasn't for him and his kindness. We should be more like Brent, lol.

Except Brent can be an asshole, and not everyone likes kisses and hugs when they join a server. ESPECIALLY kisses and hugs from an ANARCHY server.

Please keep it civil.

I don't think we're ever going to reach a consensus here. There are a lot of good suggestions, I propose we make a list of possible solutions, and then we try each out for a testing period of 1 or 2 months, and then we evaluate which we liked best.
