I think there is a seperation of physical and spiritual selfs. I also feel that the spirit has consciousness but i would not assume that it would be a strong or long lasting form of consciousness. If, however, the spirit dose maintain a consciousness then i would see reincarnation as a viable means of keeping the dead people populations down. The idea of an alternate dimension where all dead people go when they die would mean that every time a person dies their spiritual form would be removed from the known universe and therefore whatever energy the soul is made of will gradually diminish from the universe while at the same time the other dimension would become more filled. This could explain the rise and fall of universes but it still seems a bit far fetched since I just don't believe in the idea of multiple dimensions/alternate universes ans such stuff.

I like spam.

Ontopic and all serious: I think the particles that you were made of will slowly and slowly be spread more and more, becoming the celestial dust that made you.

this is most definitely true as in regards to the physical self. The only way anything other than decomposition could possibly happen is if you belive in a nonphysical self i.e. spirit soul. Of coarse if that which we would define as a spirit is nothing more than mindless electricity this to would just deteriorate. The only reason this question would even matter is under the condition that some form of consciousness can remain without the living body. Only if you believe in this possibility is there a reason to wonder. For any one not believing in this it is very plain to see what becomes of the dead.

I wish I could say I believe you are still there and concious...but no, I don't believe you aren't. There's no form of consciousness. I do believe in reincarnation though.......

but the soul doesn't require consciousness it may be a mindless entity free floating until it finds a suitable host.

I believe that the ''soul'' is just an old and defunct way of describing the slightly heightened intelligence level that allows the modern homo-sapient to think beyond mere survival. when the brain is shut down, so is this intelligence, resulting in the destruction of any conscious or thinking part of you.
