If obsidian were still a viable defense I'd be rebuilding my Borg Cube at spawn.
It isn't, and I'm still not sure what my options are in 1.5.2... but I do enjoy the challenge of building in visible high-traffic areas. We'll see.

You might as well make the place out of furnaces for all it matters.
