Prefered Mob Farms

I've seen quite a few designs for different mob farms, some are XP focused, others are Item focused (some are both.
Some use mob towers, some use spawners.
My personal favorite is a double blaze spawner for the insane XP farming and easy blaze rods... but I'd really like more TNT, thus I need a farm to give me more gunpowder!
What did you think I was going to go out with a Looting III sword at night and do it myself?
Anyways, what are your favorite mob farm types and build styles?

Well, ALL farm types are bad.
Because sitting in front of a grinder for hours on end is the height of your Minecraft gaming experience, is it not?

In regards to the topic itself, meh. I remember when mob farms were a common occurrence, and you had to make them, lest you be severely outgunned. Before this server became a bit more...dry, getting a large amount of TNT or other shit was nigh impossible without a large amount of time, which may as well be used to make a grinder. That said, I found them to be finicky at best, and I just straight up don't bother. I don't interact with players anyhow.

I found mob farming science (using 'natural' mob spawning, not mob spawners.. booooring!) kind of interesting, and had a couple different designs under construction prior to my new life as a spawn rat.
Of course on an SMP server someone was usually afk with a spawner running, running the world over mobcap and hosing everyone else. Often making me wonder what kind of industrial-strength brain damage the game designers had suffered when they implemented a small global mob cap and then gave players easy means to blow right through it.
