I doubt we are going to get Rei's anytime soon. Zan's is just as good and might be done as soon as Forge for 1.8 is ready. However... given the drama surrounding that project at present, its a safe bet that it will be a while. Ditto for optifine, without which Minecraft is a fucking slideshow.
And then there's the M$ buyout, which is definitely not good news. Minecraft Will Be Monetized, you can bet your life on it.
