Does anybody want to run a factions server?

I've been talking a bit ingame, and I think it'd be a good idea to start a factions server, or at least some similar kind of pvp server. I would provide the hosting, but you would have to run it, including managing plugins and updating spigot.

If you have an idea for a server you'd like to try running, please post.

Yo, I've been reading up on the forums lately and I have been noticing the drop in players, basically 0 people every time I look at the server and it doesn't make me want to login for that reason.

Now on this factions server, as long as the normal server stays up then I'd love to see this happen, something new I suppose, who knows really, if this factions server gets attention, you could have a MOTD that suggests to try out the normal simpvp.net or something and that could possibly get a slight increase of players. And for the hosting, you could add some kind of donation system to help pay for the server since its not a vanilla server, maybe add some kind of small "not too game-changing" donation perks if that makes sense.

I'd say try it out, and we could see what happens.

Well there wouldn't be donations on it under any circumstances, the hosting will be taken care of by me.

It's not like it's always zero, there are often several people on. Rarely more than 5-10, so we're still definitely a small server, but I get sick of hearing that we're basically dead and that literally nobody plays, because it just isn't true. You can see current players online and the averages on this site:

As for the faction server, I don't think I could help because of ongoing computer trouble and trying to cut down on gaming time in general. I do like the idea though.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like we were dead, but from experiences in the past, I seen it with 0 people many times, could be bad timing, but thank you for that link, seeing those charts shows its definitely not dead, just small. I didn't mean to offend anybody, the way I worded it probably wasn't the best saying "0" people, but you can't deny the fact that this server has lost popularity with new players.

I know that, but I guess as long as your willing to pay it with no help from donations, then go ahead.

Sorry, I overreacted to your post. You were just reporting your own observations, no reason to get upset about that.

I just wanted to make it clear that the situation isn't quite as bad as your post indicates. Some people hear that there are zero people on at certain times and then start acting like it means the server is completely dead, which is untrue and counterproductive to fixing the situation.

if I hopped on a server and 80% of the time there was zero players I wouldn't hesitate to deem it as dead

Where did you get 80% from? From the graph (which shows player rates by the hour) our typical rate seems to be three or four this week.

when I hop on the server, not when the server is active
for one that advocates reading a post thoroughly before replying, you sure are hypocritical

If you check at weird times or live on a different continent than most players, you're probably not going to see peak traffic. Someone could conclude the server was dead because of that, but they'd be wrong. I'm not sure exactly what your point is.

You can draw lots of wrong conclusions if you have bad data/evidence. That's why I linked to something more reliable.
