Assuming that was a serious question: internet relay chat. A chatroom protocol. There's a plug-in for Firefox called Chatzilla that isn't half bad, other standalone clients can easily be found.
It's an old protocol and anytime it crops up you can guarantee there's someone in their 30s or 40s who suggested it. :)
