The Snail, nicknamed "Azdin the Snail", is a massive obsidian statue of a snail located off of the negative Z highway in spawn. At first founded as a spawn project by The Order of Wilbur, the Snail's construction soon amassed to over a dozen players partaking in the placement of hundreds of thousands of obsidian blocks in what would soon become the largest all-obsidian statue on SimPvP. The Snail is solid obsidian, made up of roughly 177,000 blocks of obsidian, located in a swamp biome just outside of spawn.

Between November 26th and November 27th, danimania managed to severely lavacast the completed Snail, after having engaged in several battles with its participants during construction. However, the lavacast is currently in the process of being removed.

Participants

Many players took part in the construction of the Snail; listed below are all known players who worked on the statue during its construction period, including the three Wilburian founders:

History

Conceptualization of the Snail

Having built a new obsidian farm design at his base New Yittrium, GentleGiant69 and the rest of his teammates were flooded with excess obsidian, and no real purpose for it. GentleGiant69 had the idea to use this obsidian to build large structures and statues around spawn, originally planning on constructing a replica statue of Christ the Redeemer. However, he was persuaded by ostrich1414 to instead build a statue of a Tyrannosaurus rex, and thus, The Order of Wilbur built their first obsidian statue, a T-Rex, off of one of the spawn highways on November 23rd, 2021.

After building this T-Rex statue within one night to a resounding success, GentleGiant69 was determined to build bigger and better. For their next project, ostrich1414 found a massive model of a snail, which he persuaded both GentleGiant69 and ElectricChugg to construct next; however, this statue was significantly larger than the T-Rex was, both in size and in obsidian required--177,000 blocks of obsidian, to be exact. For the three of them, constructing this snail would be a monumental task, likely taking days or weeks to complete due to its immense size and scale. Despite this, several players on the server expressed interest in the project, asking to participate in its construction. Seeing this as an opportunity to increase the workforce and speed up progress, the three Wilburians decided to invite outside players to the statue's location, located in a swamp biome off of the negative Z highway.

Rise of the Snail

On November 24th, the Wilburians brought dozens of shulker boxes of obsidian to the statue site, allowing all participants to grab the obsidian and fill in the outlines. As GentleGiant69 outlined the Snail using his schematic, the workers followed by filling in between each outline with a full layer of obsidian, working upwards. The workforce soon grew to over a dozen participants, all helping to place obsidian as GentleGiant69 outline the statue. Though a tedious process the massive amount of players helping sped up the progress drastically.

Of course, with such a large number of players congregated in one location, there was bound to be trouble. During the early hours of the construction process, Sellout9 and jake276493 arrived at the Snail, determined to attack and kill certain players. An intense fight would break out as Sellout9 and jake276493 targeted certain players with end crystals, killing some like Pandyex, AlbertLark, and ShiHandan. The fight would soon carry on to the skies as an aerial battle commenced, while ground troops detonated crystals on the Snail. In the middle of the battle, Sellout9's Internet disconnected while he was flying mid-air, allowing Lord1 to kill him.

Ironically during the battle, the Snail was still being constructed by a few neutral players, most notably ostrich1414 and DKC. Nevertheless, as the fighting waned to a halt, construction of the Snail picked up once again, with its workers returning to finish the job. Due to the immense amount of obsidian needed, GentleGiant69, ostrich1414, and ElectricChugg had to periodically take turns going back and forth to New Yittrium, dispensing empty shulkers and getting new, full ones for use at the statue. Luckily, the Snail was being built surprisingly quickly, even despite spontaneous fighting.

One final battle would occur that day, this time at the hands of danimania. After finding out that danimania was stealing shulkers of obsidian from the project, he was targeted by the construction workers; in the middle of the fight, danimania managed to kill DKC and flee. However, he would return to the Snail once again to steal more obsidian shulkers, this time being killed by DKC.

Completion of the Snail

By November 25th, the Snail was a little more than halfway done, an impressive timespan for such an immense project. It was also around this time where the Snail was given the nickname "Azdin the Snail", named after Azdin, a notorious player known for griefing buildings and structures around spawn. As the workers kept on progressing through the Snail's structure, more and more obsidian was required. Luckily, the Wilburians had more than enough obsidian at New Yittrium to fund the project.

Danimania would return to the Snail once again to fight, this time crystalling and killing Sice_01. Now forced to be on the lookout for danimania while simultaneously building, the workers grew more concerned about ambushes while GentleGiant69 ordered that every player carry his own obsidian rather than leave full shulker boxes lying out in the open for the taking, to discourage danimania from stealing any more. Eventually, danimania returned to the scene again, this time being pursued by several players in the air. In the middle of the battle, his Internet disconnected, allowing Sice_01 to secure a kill on him.

Despite all of the fighting, stealing, and ambushing, the Snail was officially completed that same day, instantly becoming the largest obsidian structure on SimPvP, and a monument to the server's teamwork and dedication.

Fall of the Snail

Unfortunately, the Snail would not survive for long as an exposed statue for all to see. Vowing to get revenge, danimania returned to the Snail on November 26th when nobody was there, and began lavacasting it--although he was soon discovered by SenorJeb. Ostrich1414 and Laztec immediately arrived at the scene, ambushing and attacking danimania mid-lavacast and preventing him from making it worse. A small battle commenced between the three, before danimania fled and left the partially-finished lavacast behind. Ostrich1414 and Laztec made a minor attempt to remove the lavacast, but were cut short on time.

Later that night, danimania would return to the Snail once again, finishing his job. On November 27th, the Snail's workers arrived once again to discover that it was completely covered in a severe lavacast, massive in size. A demolition crew was immediately organized in an attempt to destroy the lavacast and free the Snail, with several shulkers of TNT being used to chip away at the cobblestone exterior. In protest, Korijenkins even saved a copy of the Snail and pasted it onto the Pippenger National History Museum in the events world, letting the players join and see it free from lavacasts.

Nevertheless, the Snail had been completely covered, and even the organized effort to destroy the lavacasts proved to be futile. Over the next few days, the effort to free the Snail from its cobblestone prison would dwindle, although a few determined players remained to destroy the lavacast. Lord1 would eventually strike a deal with danimania, asking him to leave the Snail alone in exchange for protection from attacks; despite this, and the saved copy of the Snail in the events world, Azdin the Snail had been covered.
