I don't normally make posts detailing how pissed off I can get, mainly because, here on the internet, people don't like it when they hear people bitching. Unless, of course, they see it as deserved. So that's what this thread is, sort of, a deserved bitching. Let start off with the back story, shall we?

On the Encyclopedia Dramatica forums, they have a thread entirely devoted to a mister Tom Preston, who is a popular DeviantArt "artist" who gets a lot of flak for being a hack writer, someone who takes criticism about as well as my mother, and an ex-inflation artist. I always liked browsing the forums, because it seemed whatever Preston did, he would get worse the next week. So what happened that made me want to make this thread? He quote mined me.

On the thread, someone posted a comment of an enraged fan tell Preston that he needed to grow as an artist, and be willing to take criticism. Despite being an overall well-intentioned post, the poster was far too emotional, and sounded more like she was yelling. Preston responded by taking snippets of the post and refuting it, and complaining about the person bitching. That was fine, I suppose, but I decided to make a response to the post by clarifying what that one user said.

The post was simple, one cannot call themselves an artist, they have to earn the title. I definitely could have clarified even more, but being short on time, I decided to make the post roughly 5 paragraphs long. Preston responded by saying he disagreed with my definition of art (an artistic medium that conveys a message) and that he was done with my post. Apparently not. When I got back on to by tri-daily searchings on the ED forums, I saw some posts on Tumblr. It took me all but two seconds to realize he quote mined what I said.

quote mining is where someone takes part of what you said out of context, making it look like you said something you didn't

that's called misquoting. Where as mining is the act, process, or industry of extracting ores, coal, etc., from mines. I doubt there are any quotes to be extracted from a mine.
