Silk Touch failure

These are the items i've found that can't be gathered with silk touch
snow, snow block, ice, spawner, farmland, tall grass 1 & 2, desert plant, bedrock, enderportal, ender egg, web

of these i am most annoyed by web and ice. Any how i just thought you all might want to know this before you go using all you're exp to get silk touch just to find you can't use it for what you wanted. This testing was done with 1.0.0 not 1.9 so these results are probably final.

What does silk touch do?

retrives blocks in their natural state as in stone to stone not cobble

Bummed out about no spawner. Oh well. Being able to mine stone as stone will be _awesome_ though, I go through so much coal for that purpose.

I think ice is disabled because of the nether. You shall not be able to bring water there. What a pity...
Dont know much about snow, but should it not be gatherable with a shovel instead? What item are you using?
I'd like to have a spawner... ;-( I thought it would be possible to get one this way.
Farmland makes little sence, but tall grass and desert plan... I Don't know... They don't give an item (everytime) and are just desroyed.
Bedrock is not diggable, so you can't retrieve it, as enderportal.
The egg is a very special item an naturally not destructable too.
Web should be retrievable, I think. What item did you use?

Maybe silk touch only works when the item you are using is designed to gather the resources out of a block, and the block naturally gives an other ressource everytime you would use the item on it.

Did you try a silk touch on a wooden pick at a diamond ore? (Or Iron ore?)

hmmm interesting idea i didn't think of that. I only tested a pick. I know plants and stuff arn't really blocks i was just testing everything that doesn't drop when punched. so maybe a shovel will do snow then without busting it into balls. Would it be a sword then for web? I don't think swords can get silk touch. I do like the abbility to get ore blocks. But i don't know of any particular reason to use ore blocks in a building. And yeah spawners WTF they teased people with it in 1.9 and then took it away. I'd make such an awsome grinder if i could get those. Any how i burned through 100 or so exp. to get one to test with so i don't think i'll strive for it in legit game play.

Maybe it's a shear for the web, but I don't think you can enchant it...

Does enchanting take away levels?

yes that's the whole point of it. I think they had some grand ideas of actually making an advancing leveling up rpg type charecter and the enchanting is just a cop out to use the exp. bar they already made.
