Re: Opinions on combat logging?
Yeah, I screwed up today and combat logged in the spawn area. I didn't realize that you could get banned for such a thing because I didn't see it in the /rules or /qa (or I am blind). However, I started chasing the guy from outside spawn and he ran to someone else and then they both started fighting me. Seeing as it was now a very unfair fight I tried to retreat and almost killed one as I did. He logged out and back in within 10 seconds while his teammate got back in position to fight me and then they jumped me. This is when I logged out. I just felt that since the fight was fair to begin with (the initial chase) and we both had iron armor and a diamond sword, that it was somewhat justifiable to combat log when 1) I am mislead into an unfair fight and 2) I get combat logged on even if it was for a short moment. In any case, my bad; it won't happen again.

actually, I heard pianissemo talk about people being banned with combat logging at spawn, but I'd rather him do it if it was in the rules. As of now, it makes no mention of combatlogging. I heard him say it was under the "glitching" portion of the rules, but we need to make it clear combat logging is indeed glitching.Bloop the poop wrote:Thanks for posting. If your MC username is "czecherface" you've since been unbanned (and not by me) - I was about to unban you myself, since this sounds very unfair to me, but someone beat me to the punch. The only person I've heard claim that combat logging is punishable is pianiseemo -- not saying he's lying, but until it's listed in the rules then I'm not going to ban anyone for it.czecherface wrote:Yeah, I screwed up today and combat logged in the spawn area. Re: Opinions on combat logging?
I dislike combat logging, however it can be useful. It does pee me off when I'm winning and the noob disconnects, however I and most users of hardcore servers go by the phrase 'combat log, lava'. But, if I'm out adventuring (crap, my knee) and some random takes me down to half a heart, I will log out. This gives me time to give the coordinates to the rest of my clan, who will make him suffer, loot his inventory and supply resources to my half-dead avatar. Therefore, in my humble opinion, I believe combat logging should be frowned upon, however not bannable. Unless of course at the spawn point.

Re: Opinions on combat logging?
i just don't see how it would be any different at spawn. Also it's easily coutered, just walk away. they only get a moment of invisibility so just stay clear when the log back in. on that note i'd just like to point out that it's not the logging out that people have an issue with, it's the invincibility they get when they log back in.
Re: Opinions on combat logging?
It's different at spawn because you can't lava them

Re: Opinions on combat logging?
Update: Combat logging @ spawn is not against the rules now
However, yukar9's rationale for combat logging @ spawn being bannable was that it is abusing glitches (hence you get one warning and not an insta-ban).
Because your opponent cannot respond properly (digging a pit/lava). Abusing glitches (spawn related ones in particular) is bannable as set by earlier precedents (spawn campers have gotten banned in the past, not completely sure on the exact story but I think it involved abusing PvP protection despite warnings).
I did not make that rule up, and applied it rather defensively- if you disconnected, you were given 5 minutes to log on until you got one warning (and were explicitly told it was against the rules when you logged on). If it happened again, you were jailed.
Nor does that rule continue to exist anymore (apparently now admins can lava/dig pits underneath combat loggers if requested, so don't combat log at spawn -.-).

Re: Opinions on combat logging?
I don't under stand your problem are you saying you don't allow any one to log out if they are at spawn cuz that's what it sounds like when you say they have 5 minutes to log back in. People do stop playing you know. Like i just said the problem isn't logging out it never was combat loging is when you go of and on to gain a few seconds of invinsibility. Which at spawn is pointless cuz every one is invinsible (on the spawn mound that is) and laying lava and giging pits is no way to counter cuz that's when they log back in and slay you. There is certainly no glitch involved when you just log out and stay out. Also yuykar has yet to make any frther statement on this issue so his last one would have to be taken as final which is that there are no rules against it.
