They're songs designed for a massive audience, and they are completely overplayed in our world. They may not be poppy, but they are popular. At this point, all of these genres are merging with pop. Genres are always loosely defined, so it's best to leave alone the distinction.

I'm not a huge fan of video game soundtracks themselves. There are certainly exceptions (such as the soundtracks found here) but I do like the concepts of a lot of video game music. I enjoy the tunes, and they go well with the games most times, but I don't like listening to them alone. I feel that most video game music (again, this is only my opinion, and there are certainly exceptions) doesn't stand well alone. However, if a lot of these tracks were put through a fair bit of editing, they would sound great on their own. As I said, I enjoy the concept of most video game soundtracks, but I haven't come across much good standalone music from video games.

As for the the music that I do like, you can find most of it it here.

The walking dead has the worst ballistics and weapons play of any fucking series involving guns I've ever seen.

The Walking Dead: A TellTale Game Series has much better music (and basically puts the show to shame in terms of narrative cadence).

The game got me to the show. I watched most of the show last weekend. The story in the game is way better than show.

There's scenes where people don't even have iron sights on their AR-15's/M4A1's.
There's a notable one where the GUVNAH has his Styer AUG, which by the way a fully automatic one is likely to not exist in the US, in a "firing position", which means he puts his hand on the forward grip, aims with his eyepatched eye, couples a flashlight onto his trigger hand, and grips the magazine instead of the trigger.

Not to mention the scene on the farm where Hershel literally pumps and fires his shotgun for a good continuous five minutes without so much as checking the chamber or reaching for ammo.
