I used to think the same thing, but after working in it, I've found it's really not that bad.
It seems most of the complaints come from slow java webstart apps, and the constant updates and Ask toolbar in Windows.
Not to say there aren't things I find annoying (such as not being able to return two variables in a single function) but I have no major issues with it.
Ontopic: It doesn't have to be a list of friendly players, it could also be changing the entire combatlog check, to something like having taken damage in the past 60 seconds or something.

Re: /worlding while next to friendlies
Yukar, would it be any damage or just damage from another player? Cause right now mobs are a very minor hindrance to /worlding compared to other players. You only have to be something like 5 blocks away instead of 50. I don't entirely like the idea of minor mob damage, falling damage, etc. stopping me from entering /world.
But in general that does sound like a simpler way of doing it, not that I'm pretending to understand the specifics, I can just see how it would be easier to do.

"Taken Damage" means all types of damage. I think you can stand to wait 45 seconds for a timer to expire after you get hit by a mob. Lord knows you already wait at a grinder for hours at a time.
Re: /worlding while next to friendlies
I didn't suggest anything specific, just saying that distance from hostile mobs/players isn't the only way of doing it.

Lone, nobody fucking waits at a grinder for hours. We leave our characters at grinders and do other shit in real life. Read the news, watch TV, go for a walk, sleep, etc.
Actually being forced to wait ingame in the middle of when I'm doing something would be actually annoying, possibly more annoying overall than the problem we're trying to prevent.
I'm just wondering, would it be possible to only count damage from players, or does it only work if it counts any kind of damage? Like I said, I don't know anything about the specifics of how this works.

Have you ever played a last-man-standing gamemode that requires you to wait several minutes until a new round?
Or gee even had to wait for a respawn timer?
It's a trivial inconvinence at best and probably a better way to do it.
Re: /worlding while next to friendlies
It's possible to program it to work in any way you want.

Lone, what is your fucking problem? This entire thread is about a trivial inconvenience in the first place. You're saying I should be OK with replacing it with a much more common and annoying inconvenience just to prove how tough I am or something.
I can fucking wait if I need to. I wait for buses, I wait in line for hours at the DMV and stuff. What bothers me is adding pointless waiting to a game, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADDING CONVENIENCE. Do you see how retarded that is? Adding inconvenience to add convenience. Lone-Logic.

Lone, both of this options are shit. I'd prefer to just leave it how it currently is if those are the only two choices.
