large scale projects like these remind me how limited minecraft's lighting system is
superbright entities that can project their luminosity over a large distance with less falloff would be great for these kinds of things

This is very true, figuring out the lighting in this room to make it look decent was a pain in the ass. Lots of spots were going below 6 (light level) so we had to add some hidden lamps in the room to light those places up.
