If it pops up in chat, people's eyes will be drawn to it as they may think it's a chat message, which is more effective than spewing garbage whenever you enter something in chat, since you'll be more focused on the game and your new surroundings then you will reading what's going on in chat.

That's exactly what makes it annoying. You can only vote once per day, and yet your message would be forcing players to look at it many times in that interval. What is the point?

you're the one that wants votes and thinks they'll magically solve the server's stagnation problem, yet you're also the one that claims a tiny chat message every 30 minutes is far too intrusive to consider and is by far "the worst of any suggestion". You are begging for votes. You are already being intrusive. I'm positive that you can learn to ignore a little message every half hour and that nobody's going to leave the server soley based on a repetitive message at a very lengthy interval of time.

I'm playing in another survival server, similar to simpvp, There are voting popups in chat in every 5 minutes and no-one complains about it. The community likes the server and therefore voting for the server. Of course admins give a little treat for it, sometimes a bit of food, sometimes a few diamonds. Noone argues about how vanilla the server is or should be. no swearing in chat.Nice!

Well, we will very simply never have rewards for voting, so the suggestion of restricting /world or other areas to players who have voted will not happen.

We can vote on whether to remind people to vote in the chat if you want.

I think most people in this thread are assuming voting helps a lot more than it does. Most people find this server by a targeted google search, or word of mouth. The noobs who find us by general server list searches don't seem to last too long.

That's true, votes probably don't help unless you can get enough to put you into the top 50 servers or something. I suppose there's not much difference between being on page 70 and page 50 of a server list.
