watched him a little didn't see flying i did see him use a block to climb up a wall, and jump to his death off spawn.

I was at spawn earlier today and he was frozen midair and couldn't take any damage, I just assumed this was lag though.

could have been lag or a log out ghost. Best we can do is keep an eye out if no one has any solid evidence.
