Firstly, I'm sorry I'm a little busy this weekend, so this might not be processed as swiftly as I would like.
Now, when it comes to xray, it is always just probability. You're absolutely right that we can't unequivocally say that you used xray. We base this on the incredibly low probability that you hit diamonds directly and consecutively in such a short period of time.
I'll upload a video showing the digs, with my personal commentary when I get the time. If you can reasonably explain the video (after it goes up) I'll unjail you. (note I can't promise I'll get it done today)

You have to understand that there are a lot of people who use very similar reasoning to convince us that they're either innocent, or that they won't cheat ever again. I'm not saying you're dishonest - I just want you to understand why we're not eager to hand out pardons.

One of our players sometimes digs up to 60-ish diamonds in one day. Yet I never managed to find any suspicious digs.

Exactly, we have players who dig very large amount of diamonds, we don't ban them. Why? Because they obviously did it legit. We won't ban for a single lucky find, or people who find any amount of diamonds openly visible in caves, or people who find large amounts of diamonds in branch mines.

I see. If I dig a large amount of diamonds I don't get banned but if I don't mine enough I will now it makes perfect sense.

You've perfected reading between the lines. Now try to read what's actually there.

Here's the problem, basically, if a person is "smart" about using X ray and makes an effort to look like they aren't using it...i.e. pretends to strip mine a little bit before "finding" diamond, then that's completely cool and acceptable, and they can score 60+ diamond per day.
If on the other hand, someone like me just happens to get lucky and finds 6 diamond in a relatively short period of time with random digging, then that results in a permanent ban.
At this point I'm so frustrated I don't know if I would continue to play on this server even if you reverse my ban. On one hand you guys don't seem to be the typical server-owners with a god complex who ban people with no evidence on a personal whim-- then again, on the other hand (at least in this case) your ban is 100% subjective, 100% wrong, and 100% unfair to me.
In the final analysis it really doesn't make any difference to me whether you're trying to do the right thing or not. You've done the wrong thing. Its unfair.
For an "anarchy" server there sure seems to be a lot of subjective bullshit bans flying around. And all this for a few diamonds? Whats the point? The most diamonds anyone can gain anything from is around 30 diamonds which is a full set of diamond gear. After that, they're just cosmetic and no further advantage can be had from mining them
Gnat and Yukar-- do you guys even play minecraft anymore? Why do you spend all your time trying to police the mining of diamonds? It just seems petty, subjective, and pointless.
X ray is cheating, yes, I get that-- and especially if it is used to locate and grief bases-- but this whole fiasco is over a couple of diamonds. Does this really make sense to you?
I'm innocent. Do the right thing, lift the ban. Justice delayed is justice denied. This has become silly.

You want a pardon, then you say you don't know if you'll even play here anymore if you get pardoned, so why are you still trying to get unbanned? Sounds like you're indifferent either way.

I was just actually going to edit that out because I regret saying it. I'm just mad. Anyone would be. It's BS.
I shouldn't write when I'm angry, but there you have it. I'd take my statement back if I could. I spoke in anger and in haste.

Ugh, let me break this long post down.
"Here's the problem, basically, if a person is "smart" about using X ray and makes an effort to look like they aren't using it...i.e. pretends to strip mine a little bit before "finding" diamond, then that's completely cool and acceptable, and they can score 60+ diamond per day."
Generally people who use x-ray don't care about how they mine, they just mine straight to the diamonds. As a result, we look for this. You're right, however. If someone with xray was smart, they'd mine as if they were branch mining. This would mean they would know the general direction to fake, and would willingly use up picks. That said, I find it rather doubtful one would go through with that, so we rely on the "footprints" of an xrayyer, which is unfortunately sometimes not so tell-tale.
"If on the other hand, someone like me just happens to get lucky and finds 6 diamond in a relatively short period of time with random digging, then that results in a permanent ban."
The only crime we know you committed is that your mining looks like it could be an xray. We don't know how you found it, we only know of your footprints. With the footprints, it looks like you mined to the diamonds, all 4 veins in the video gnat showed, as if you knew exactly where you were. ALL FOUR OF THEM WOULD NORMALLY BE HIDDEN. They were not "visible", they were covered with natural rock. There is no way you could have found all of these veins with knowing they were there or with straight up dumb luck.
"At this point I'm so frustrated I don't know if I would continue to play on this server even if you reverse my ban. On one hand you guys don't seem to be the typical server-owners with a god complex who ban people with no evidence on a personal whim-- then again, on the other hand (at least in this case) your ban is 100% subjective, 100% wrong, and 100% unfair to me."
I understand why you are frustrated. I don't know if you xrayyed, but that video speaks for itself, and it's hard to say that you did not xray. We have a decent due process system. Since this isn't real life, but a private server, we don't send you to the appeal forum to go to court for whether or not you're sentenced for a crime you may or may not have committed. In the case of you, and most other people who appeal, the admins agreed (after an extensive amount of evidence) that you xrayyed (this happens mostly with xray. Other "crimes" are more noticable. We don't need to bring evidence if someone flyhacks), and you have an actual leg to stand on when it comes to defending yourself. Unfortunately, most of these digs are rather hard to defend against. If they were easy to defend, like if you mined every single block around the veins, rather than digging STRAIGHT TO the veins, than you wouldn't be here, you'd still be playing.
"In the final analysis it really doesn't make any difference to me whether you're trying to do the right thing or not. You've done the wrong thing. Its unfair."
Final analysis according to you. You should be happy you have the ability to defend yourself. Good luck though, as the evidence is stacked against you.
"For an "anarchy" server there sure seems to be a lot of subjective bullshit bans flying around. And all this for a few diamonds? Whats the point? Alright, so "anarchy" is a bit of a not-well-agreed upon term. We prefer the term "vanilla", implying a limited amount of modding, and it generally plays like the original game. We have a few rules, however. You can't mod your game (with a few exceptions), or else you lose your privilege to play here. In the case of you specifically, you were jailed because the admins felt you may have been xraying. You are not the first one here who was accused of xrayying. We even had a few vets who xrayed (some had rather long threads due to friends thinking "it could be dumb luck"), but we make it very clear. You cannot mod your game. It gives you an unfair advantage. With xrayying, you can get minerals at a faster rate, and more importantly, you can find bases you minght have never existed.
AS A RESULT, WE TAKE THE POSSIBILITY OF XRAY VERY SERIOUSLY. It is the hardest mod to crackdown on since we cannot detect it directly, only its footprints. As a result, if we find something that has no explanation BUT xray, we jail. YOU MUST FIND A WAY TO PROVE YOU GOT DAMN LUCKY.
"X ray is cheating, yes, I get that-- and especially if it is used to locate and grief bases-- but this whole fiasco is over a couple of diamonds. Does this really make sense to you?"
It's not over the diamonds, it's over the xray. We don't care what you got, all we care about is making sure everyone has to play by the same rules, or else face the consequences.

This is why I started playing on this server in the first place. I wanted to play vanilla, but servers like Hardcore Darwinism or 2b2t made it pointless because people were hacking their asses off.
We're pseudo-vanilla smp, and there is only one rule that we take seriously. That is rule #2: no hacking of any sort is allowed.
