Does it give you an error or any feedback? I use VLC exclusively, on both linux and windows, and never had a problem with it...
Re: Goodbye windows, hello linux
u must install css. dvd playback are restrictive so ubuntu cant enable it by default. but use this guide to enable it https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Restr ... layingDVDs

The best thing about VLC is that it doesn't require installing any codecs on the system and it plays 99% media out of the box, and it runs on Win, Mac and Linux.

Re: Goodbye windows, hello linux
it played 0% untill i did that ^ libdvdread4 download. I guess it's no big deal to me. I just want to play videos ihave no idea what other qualites people look for in a video player. I'm guessing "lightweight" means it doesn't take much disk space.
Re: Goodbye windows, hello linux
well dvd are like i said restricted so its not ubuntus fault.. lightweight as in dont take much resources when running. disk space i dont know about.

Re: Goodbye windows, hello linux
So, i killed my laptop and needed a new one. During the windows xp era manufacturers were getting sued for not giving refunds for unused windows software. But the new windows 7 agreement says the user must comply to the manufacturers return policy. This means manufacturers no longer need to offer a linux option to save their asses. I found some dealers that sold linux machines but they all ran over 1000$ This one i got was less than 500$. I went with the 100$ windows tax rather than the 500$ non-windows tax. Linux was free anyhow. The first laptop i tried had an AMD with radeon procesor. This did not work with ubuntu so i returned it. The one i have now runs linux but to boot it i had to run widows because the boot menu did not have a boot from cd option. Not a big deal but what it means is that i had to agree to the windows agreement, if i didn't i could not have installed the disc boot to allow me to install an other operating system. (actualy usb option was availible on the boot menu but i have now boot file on usb stick)

Hmm, in my part of the world, companies sell laptops with windows, linux or even no OS whatsoever. And yes, it f-ing sucks that you have to agree to something you don't want to agree to in order to use the equipment you bought legally.
