This servers crashes are caused by bukkit, and it probably was a bad decision on my end to update to 1.8 so early.

No. CPU is the bottleneck.

Well although the memory leak seems to have been fixed, the memory usage has increased drastically, as it is now when the server is full, it uses about 6GB ram. Even though this is a bit more than 1.7, it is still, as Kirov pointed out, the CPU that's the bottleneck.

Donating 20€ straight off the bat towards that noble cause.

Thanks for hosting the best server I have ever played on :) Keep it up!

EDIT: 25$

Interesting the that :27027 (old server) seems to go down whenever the current one does (I only notice because I have 'em both on my server list page). Are they hosted on a separate box than the site?

Yes, the two servers and the website are all hosted on the same machine. Last night the actual physical server crashed, which is why they both went down at the same time.

@TheLea sorry I completely forgot about the donation page, I'll get right to fixing it.

It is also not helpful that Minecraft is written in java as java consumes so many system resources. I just tried installing the latest CraftBukkit build on my own server. My dual core Atom started maxing out instantly as soon as I connected, even without plugins!
