Hurray for maps

Post by Yukar9 »

It's been well over a year ago since me and mitte scrambled to find sugar cane to make our very first map. We were greatly disappointed in this entirely useless feature.

Today, I was reading through the changelogs for the newest snapshot, and I noticed this
[Maps are] now crafted as a close zoom scale and can be extended (zoomed out) by adding more paper.
And they can be shared.

Hooray for hopefully no longer being useless.

If they can be extended infinitely I think they may have quite some use.

i don't understand the add more paper thing but with frames you can put maps together on a wall. There are rather big gaps between frames though. Maps now center on common points rather than on you where it's crafted. So they line up on there own.

I wonder when they decide to make powered minecarts non-useless... Takes them a lot of time to do anything sensible really.

are they useful with the "you can move a little in your minecart" or do they just go in any unpredictable direction?

minecarts cause a lot of unknown damage. Being able to move manually is much better than pushing and hopping in, possibly loosing your cart with out you.

that works for minecarts - but what about powered minecarts, are they "pulled" along with the minecart or do you need to push them, fire them up and hop in the minecart beside it?

edit:
i just checked - the "Minecart with Furnace" always goes in the direction you're facing while putting the fuel in - so if you sit in minecart you can't get it pushed by the powered minecart since you cant face away from it and right click :D
