Curiosity killed the cat and took all his stuff

So I am playing a couple minutes ago, all my stuff on my person because I don't trust chests and everyone is doing /op saying it works and it looks like they are becoming op's. In the chat I say something along the lines of "that totally ruins the point of this." Then suddenly curiosity comes over me and I realize that nothing will change about the game as long as I don't change the gamemode or anything. So I try it /op and I'm dead and I lost all my stuff. I really wasn't trying to cheat/hack or gain an advantage. I already had a whole lot of stuff and a secret cave which i left open. Is there any way I can get my stuff back because I fell for this trick due to a momentary lapse in judgement.

If you can remember where your cave is, you can go back there and it'll likely still be there. And, chests are awesome, you should trust them.
