I had an idea earlier today that I thought you might find interesting. If not, fuck off. Anyways:
There's a chance that the game spawns a large horde of organized mobs somewhere on the map, nearby. The horde will gravitate to man-made blocks or travel in a preset direction. This horde would consist of either one type of mob that was many in numbers, such as a large number of zombies, or an organized division of a few different mobs, such as a large number of zombies with Skeletons backing them.
This first thing this would need to be sucsessful would be much better pathfinding and AI. The AI should initally remain unaware of the player, but if he/she makes themselves noticed, or the horde catches eye of some giant fucking fortress, all hell would break loose. They should be able to flank, and they should have a much, much greater chase range, somewhere around 100-200 blocks so getting away from them isn't as simple as run in the other direction. Skeleton archers should be able to fire from many blocks away, especially if from a higher position, but their accruacy shouldn't be very high. In fact, the archer portion of an attack should just lay back and fire vollies on vollies of arrows. There should also be a higher proportion of Armored/armed units to vanilla units.
The second thing is that players shouldn't be able to easily deal with such a force. Simply hiding in your home or digging a hole isn't going to stop them that easily. They should be able to break blocks, given enough time, or even be able to set fire to wooden structures. They would essentially be like the real threat of a player, just in much force and not as stupidly destructive or a super one-sided battle as it normally is. They should also search areas for a player. For example, break a house open and pathfind to all of the rooms. If someone is found in one of the rooms, it alerts everyone in the area.
Anyways, add more to this later.
Let me just throw this idea past you

you need to find a different game all together
Re: Let me just throw this idea past you
I think we should just throw the two of you into a pit and make you gouge eachother's eyes out. You both seem to be doing that already, anyway. Have at it, boys!

this idea aint so bad, but the player needs options to deal with such large amounts of mobs or else players would be handed their asses in a nice-neat-little-package.LoneSoldier55 wrote:I had an idea earlier today that I thought you might find interesting. If not, fuck off. Anyways:

if there was a way to craft different weapons that can either push through or bite off these large groups of horde, even have special blocks that the mobs cannot take or move (like player-only blocks). there could be a variety of protective options to avoid the different types of horde who are programmed to overtake a bunker or base.
its a fun idea, oh! even have like a big "boss" in the middle of the horde. that would be crazy

Minecraft's combat by it's very nature can't be enhanced any more than it pretty much isn't.
