So in the map reset thread, I noticed a few people saying that they wish spawn was less ruined and more full of people. This confused me, because I tried to put dirt and trees at spawn a couple times and a lot of people got mad and said it ruined the anarchy server effect, and made it too easy for noobs to survive on the server. So what I want to know is the general opinion on the server about how messed up spawn should look, and how hard it should be to survive at. I know I had a rough time at spawn, and while on one hand I ennjoyed the experience, on the other hand, I can't really say I'm certain that going through that should be a requirement to playing here.
(Keep in mind that the game has been getting steadily harder over the last few updates, and that the benefits that offset this only really apply to long term players. A noob living near spawn still has to deal with baby zombies and other new mobs, but they probably don't have much access to enchanted armor.)
Overall, do you think a very difficult spawn is good because it weeds out immature noobs who can't play, or bad because it means we're potentially losing lots of good players? I'm not asking for any kind of reset of the area, I'm just asking if more experienced players fixing spawn up would overall help or hurt the server more, in your opinion. If people support it, I'd like to take some dirt and saplings over because I've always had the urge to fix the area, since the first time I played. If not though, I don't wanna screw up the server. What do you think?
Should we clean up spawn?

I don't even have to read this to say fuck no, its an anarchy server and if you want to clean up the spawn, you can do it yourself you OCD cunt.A. Re: Should we clean up spawn?
I'm not really asking for help Lone, if I do this it will probably be almost entirely be me alone. What I'm asking is, does an anarchy server necessarily have to have a shitty spawn? As long as people are still allowed to grief and backstab and fuck with each other, wouldn't it be nice to have some more people doing it? Nothing about the actual rules of the server would change.
These aren't rhetorical questions by the way. I'm looking for answers from people.

Who cares what the wasteland of noobs punching creepers looks like? Spawn will remain spawn no matter how hard you try to rebuild it.

It's anarchy you can do whatever it'll probably get griefed again.
Re: Should we clean up spawn?
Pippenger isn't asking whether it's possible to do, but asking whether it should be done.

Re: Should we clean up spawn?
I like it the way it is, it helps filter out the players who clearly don't work with this kind of server. But a degree of cleanup never hurt anyone, so if you intend to do so, I would welcome it.

Re: Should we clean up spawn?
The spawn (noob filter) always does the job for us, keeping out immature noobs. But i kinda agree with pipenger, the spawn does need some cleaning up, getting rid of floating blocks and random broken structures should not affect the noobs's attempt of survival because usually the main thing that kills them are the holes on the ground, just the broken landscape itself. So what im tryng to suggest is to clear the structures around spawn and other floating blocks but keep the landscape as it is.

Though if we help those spawn noobs and they won't quit they 'might' stop being noobs and just become regulars.

Re: Should we clean up spawn?
This theory has been tried and tested numerous times and hasn't yeilded any results, except instead of people saying "wow this server got girff" they say "wow where r all teh trees?"
