How's this for a pvp map?

Post by Yukar9 »

http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/ ... -18-ready/

We could just cut 1kx1k chunks out of that map to use for the pvp map. It would last us years. And it's really beautiful, way better than vanilla maps.

Looks neat. I like the idea of the south-west corner of the map as mountains but with a water basin.

I don't know, I kind of like the randomness of each /world being a new spawn. This looks cool but it feels so predictable.

Defaultly generated worlds are WAY predictable. Never have I once generated a new singleplayer world and found something interesting or unique in the terrain.

I flew around this map for a bit an it's way awesome. I like the scale and feel of the geography. It feels much more realistic like you're actually standing on the mountaintop.

Yes, I guess normally-spawned /world is very predictable in it's own way. But at least it's random instead of predetermined, and you don't know what it will be until it's actually generated.

What happened to the idea of players creating custom /worlds though? Have we given up on that?

randomized terrain gets boring when you've explored several million meters of it

and since nobody really has this map file nobody will be sure of what to expect anyways

And the custom worlds idea is just bad and takes too long besides.

Eh, you guys make decent points.

I could probably tolerate this idea if it happened.

Well I don't see how this would be different from custom maps built by us. But if somebody wants to step up and do that, then we can do that too. It's just that nobody has stepped up.

Couldn't we just have another multiworld kind of like /deathban and /world, maybe /creative? Or would this be too complicated to implement?

Not too complicated, but it would require resources. And it would probably be better in every way to run it as a separate server. The reason is creative takes up quite a bit more resources than deathban, with all the constant worldediting and stuff.
