here's "the server is dead because nobody is voting thread" #ivelosttrack
nobody is going to vote for melons and planks, they will vote if you give them a clear cut edge or valuable item. thus it doesn't work.

IMO, it would be hard to make it enough to motivate people without feeling tacky and desperate. I think it would actually be very easy to make a system that was tacky and useless at the same time.

I'm starting to think that our lack of players has little to do with anything actually wrong with out server, and is more just a symptom of a general trend. If you talk to any old mc players, the usual story is that they got sick of it and/or their servers shrunk.

Minigame servers are still popular, but only among little kids, and they really have nothing in common with what we're doing here. I'd rather have a server I really like with <10 daily players than make our server tacky and shitty and attract kids. Better to die with dignity I think.

If it's possible, I think some kind of meaningless "score" from voting would be nice, that showed how many times everyone had voted, but didn't affect the game at all. If it actually gives any advantage, I feel like it compromises the server too much.

Also, I did make some Yukarion-approved, cheap to print IRL server posters/flyers. If we put some at highschools and universities we might be able to attract a few mature players looking to get back into the game. Not trying to hijack your thread with my personal project, but I honestly don't think rewards for voting is going to ever get much support here anyway.

I think even your name changing colors might be too much, one of the things I like about this server is that it has a sort of egalitarian feeling, compared to servers where friends and relatives of the admins are allowed to hack or where people are allowed to donate money to get competitive advantages. This would kinda ruin that, and give more of a hierarchal feeling to the server.

What I don't really understand is why you're assuming most of the votes would even come from noobs. If there are barely any new players in the first place, why would they provide a significant amount of votes? If just the three of us in this thread voted every day for a week, we'd probably improve our rank than noob votes would in a month. And I think a better way to encourage core players to vote regularly would be very subtle rewards, like a vote leaderboard or completely meaningless score. Giving items or changing your name color are just too much, I think.

It couldn't be easier to get food. Seriously, all you have to do is kill 2 spiders and make a fishing pole. Anyone who thinks it's hard to get food shouldn't play here.

putting flyers up is more autistic that giving people donor perks
if you want to waste your time, ink, and effort doing that, you're likely the only one doing it.

what im getting from this thread is
>nubs need food
>make nubs vote for food
>this fixes server

this is literally what all four of your posts in this thread say mini

making terrible suggestions doesn't help that there aren't any decent ways, don't try to strawman your way out of it by saying "b-b-but you don't have anything!!!"

Things that can help:

1) Voting
2) Playing regularly
3) Not being complete dicks to noobs
4) Donating
5) Advertising IRL by telling friends, posting flyers, etc.

I've honestly only really been doing #2 lately, but those are the things that can help. If we wait until we hear a giant suggestion that is somehow able to get more players without ruining the server, and wait until we actually get >50% player approval, it probably won't happen this year, if ever. I think if we actually do improve the server, most of it won't be done through the suggestions thread.

1) You can easily do this. If a player really likes a server enough, has server spirit and believes the server actually deserves a genuine vote per day, they can do it on their own time. It's up to the server to keep up quality service if it actually wants to get votes.
2) If you have alot of time on your hands. Sure. I can only play on weekends lately though.
3) Being a dick to noobs is kind of a tricky one. Sometimes it might actually make them stay for rivalry purposes and sometimes it might make them slam their laptop in rage.
4) This is something that you do if you're old enough and have spare cash.
5) Just be casual about it. If you have another friend who plays minecraft, talk about it. Tell them you'll skype them and that you guys should play together on SimPvP. That's how i've invited friends. Of course, this is for close friends or else you might come off as a hopeless geek (we all are inside but can't admit it).

Stop being so negative miniwimi in an attempt to push the agenda of your own plot of voting for melons. All this stuff, while not achievable for you, is achievable for others.
