We're changing our ban policy in a way that will allow banned players to return to the server under certain conditions.
From now on, and retroactively, if someone appeals after at least 1 year from their ban date, we may consider unbanning if we have reason to believe the person won't cheat again.
A few things to point out. A second offense will of course remain a permanent ban. Also, this thread aside, we'll continue to advertise our bans as permanent for the time being. We will not be releasing anyone who does not appeal, and we will not release anyone whom we believe will likely cheat again. A year-long waiting period should be plenty of time for a player to weigh the consequences of his or her actions and also perhaps gain a little maturity.
The purpose of our strict ban policy has always been to keep cheating off of the server, rather than to punish cheaters. This step will allow us to maintain these standards for the most part, without being too unfair. Naturally anyone unbanned will be watched very closely, and we will of course take into consideration if someone represents a specific danger to another active player.

BTW if anybody else can't see the image morl0ck posted, it's because the site's CSP forbids http images (it has to be https).

month+ late counterpoint
considering that people who get their base unfairly fucked over by wallhacks get fairly shafted if their belongings aren't very specifically within the hacker's possession at the time of their ban seems like it's a good way to inconvenience legit players
