Elder Scrolls Online

Post by worldruler086 »

Fuck, I've never been so mixed at an announce of a game, mainly because of several things. For starters, TES series have always been a single player experience. So to see them make an MMO, well, it better have several sections with only singleplayer. Secondly, why base it in the past? We'll know how it ends! I don't know, the only thing I'm interested in so far is the fact that it will be in ALL of Tamriel, and not just a specific province.

discuss, I guess, though I don't know how popular it is here.

UPDATE: Alright, so Gameinformer's article is out, and it doesn't sound good. Everything that TES fans will like are gone, and it seems to be a WoW clone. (In fact, the developers said "it will use WoW-like controls")

here's a scan, feel free to read it. Me, well, I need a strong drink. I was in a good mood, watched the Avengers (great movie), and now I feel like killing something.

Not sure if you're doing that as a joke, or you're generally sad. By the way, it isn't being made by Bethesda, but rather Zenimax Online, who have just been made (though they've been working on this for 7 years). The Director apparently made Dark Age of Camelot, which apparently was pretty good. So I think it's best to think of this less as Elder Scrolls 6, and more a pvpMMO in Tamriel (though the faction fighting will occur in Cyrodiil, which was "fun" and "interesting" in Oblivion, so hopefully it's more interesting than it sounds)

Half-joke half-serious, i usually have bad fears when people attempt to convert things into MMOs.

Well, I'm sure if you were a TES fan, this news would either be "TEH BEST TING EVAH" or "RUINED FOREVAH"

I, like probably so many others, started playing the TES series when Oblivion came out, which was a truly a game changer. Honestly, theres just so many things that could go wrong here, but who knows, maybe it will turn out to be the greatest thing of all time.

I'm actually a much older player, I started with the third installment, Morrowind. I found that game to be much more immersive (apparently that isn't a word) than Oblivion, which I found to be rather generic. Morrowind had fast travel, but it was more a taxi service (think a teleport to a town from another town for x amount of gold), and only towns appeared on your world map. Long story short, Oblivion felt like a completely different game, and Oblivion seemed to take a step backwards, forgetting why people loved Morrowind. I don't mind if you like it, but after the high standard that Morrowind set, I can't enjoy the game as much. I liked some things Skyrim had to offer, but it felt to streamlined for me to really sink my teeth into it. I don't like Oblivion/Skyrim's fast travel system, as it makes the worlds feel much smaller than they actually are. Exploring is much more enjoyable when getting to a spot requires more planning than hitting a button and teleporting there.

Not sure if you know anything about TES series besides the heavily PR-ed Skyrim (if you haven't heard of that, there isn't anything I can do), but TES lore can get rather...interesting. I know it vaguely (read as: more than the average player) and enough to know that, the more I read up on the lore, the less I'm worried about the "lore" part of the MMO, and more the MMO part of the MMO.
