Time reset and missing inventory items

A couple of days ago the server was being very laggy, and then the server crashed. When I logged back in several items that I had moved to my inventory, including a stack of obsidian and some chiseled stone bricks, had disappeared, and the day had jumped back by three or four minutes. Mac9308 reported coal disappearing from his furnaces around the same time. What happened, and is there any way we can get these items back?

Also, Blkgardner lost 64 iron in a rollback that happened about an hour ago now or so. Nobody else mentioned that they lost anything so I don't think he was being sarcastic or lying about it.
