Anarchy

Around the end of 2018, several people began complaining that SimPvP advertised itself as an anarchy server when in fact it does not allow cheating. SimPvP has never allowed cheating, but has since 2011 called itself an anarchy server. Realizing that the term anarchy had come to mean a server on which cheating is allowed, in early 2019 SimPvP stopped using anarchy to describe the server. Old server listings and forum posts using the term can however still be found.

An anarchy server did not used to automatically mean one on which cheating is allowed. It used to be understood as a server on which griefing and killing other players is allowed. Throughout the years there have been a countless number of self-proclaimed anarchy servers, and the majority of them did not permit cheating. The major exception to this is 2b2t. As 2b2t has become the by far most popular self-proclaimed anarchy server, people have begun associating the very word anarchy with 2b2t in the context of Minecraft servers.
