New Ishtar is a city founded by AtacFauxpas in the Spring of 2022. Originating as a villager trading hall, the former outpost has now grown into what can be considered an entire city. With several farms and many large, intricate buildings, the city has sought to, and continues to successfully outdo its predecessor in terms of both physical size and wealth.
History
Founding
There was no exact date that New Ishtar was founded, instead the city grew organically. After regaining access to his account in February, AtacFauxpas returned to the server after a 1–2-year hiatus. Seeking to regear, he set out to create a villager trading hall which his previous solo base lacked and built a villager breeder at the first village he could find. He also set up a pen of cows and sheep. While building these, AtacFauxpas realized that this location would actually serve as a good location for a base due to the natural materials found near it, including a large stone mountain and a spruce forest.
As time went on, AtacFauxpas set up multiple utilities, such as a raid farm and /portals linking to other dimensions and spawn.
Early Growth
The city grew rapidly under the sole administration of AtacFauxpas, and served as a place for him to refine his architectural skills as well as learning the intricacies of redstone. Though this sated him for a while, he realized that soon the task of constructing an entire functional city would simply be too large an undertaking for one person. As a result, AtacFauxpas invited several players he deemed trustworthy, and gave them the permission to build, modify, and invite others to the city as they saw appropriate. This marked the first boom in New Ishtar's growth, and the inhabitants quickly worked together to construct farms as well as mere aesthetic buildings. This rapid phase of construction all occurred without any sort of urban planning involved, though typically the newly constructed buildings did not interfere with any other projects being built.
Districts Expand
As growth continued, New Ishtar began to accumulate several distinct districts built typically by separate players. In the city center, there is the Old District, built by AtacFauxpas, naturally consisting of the villager breeder from which the city has its origins. Here also is the sugarcane farm, and an old storage building. This district has a distinct, slightly esoteric architectural style which resembles the old city of Ishtar.
Directly west of Old District lies the Canal District. Pertinent to the name, this area is distinguished by several canals, primarily built out of stone brick. On the earth between the canals, there are several buildings built by ChuckFuk, which utilize a monolithic, but elegant style. Directly east of the Old District, dacegod863 has constructed a dense series of buildings using both Imperial Architecture and a variety of other building styles. This coalesces into a diverse, cozy district, a fine addition to the city. Dacegod863 has also constructed a stone farm and an auto-sorting machine.
A Summer Lull
After the burst of activity in the late spring, New Ishtar's progress slowed to a crawl. Laztec and dacegod863 were highly focused on spawn projects and solo activities, ChuckFuk was involved with Church of Francis cities and stone mining, and Atacfauxpas went on a months-long hiatus starting in April. New Ishtar only gained minor or unfinished buildings. Dacegod863 started outlining projects like a bamboo autosmelter, villager hall, and iron farm, but most of the growth was in ChuckFuk's Canal District, with several new towers and residential midrises.
But in late fall the tempo of the city changed once more. Soon after Atacfauxpas announced the date that his hiatus would end, Lpmaster123 joined the city as its newest member. ChuckFuk and dacegod863, the primary builders in the city after Atacfauxpas, started beautifying the streets and finishing long-inactive projects. With most members active and productivity higher than ever, by December it looked like New Ishtar was set for a resounding comeback.
Conclusion
In March 2023, it was revealed that a player based at New Ishtar had at least one unsecured portal hub that led to the base. These portals were likely accessible by players who weren't invited to the base, and it's possible that the base was visited many times by these players. It's unknown who, if any outsiders had access to the base, but rumors quickly spread amongst the members of New Ishtar. Within the next few days, New Ishtar was looted and abandoned, but the basemates made a conscious decision to not self-grief the base.
Current State
As of December 2023, the base is still largely intact.
Brick Brotherhood
New Ishtar became the home of the Brick Brotherhood, with all members of the group being invited by AtacFauxpas shortly after the group's formation. This has led to many of the structures being built primarily out of brick variants (mostly stone bricks), although there are other structures that are built from other materials.
