Fern Springs was a prematurely abandoned base founded by ostrich1414 and TuataraBoots in late March 2022. The original concept for Fern Springs was a small, relaxed town within the greater spawn region, directly inspired by older Imperial Architecture bases like Quinsigamond and Ascaris. Fern Springs was meant to be a blossoming community project for The Order of Wilbur, and both ostrich1414 and TuataraBoots planned on bringing more Wilburians to the town over time; however, these plans were cut short, and Fern Springs was promptly abandoned after only one completed building. Today, the base sits completely abandoned as an obscure footnote in modern Wilburian history.
History
In early 2022, The Order of Wilbur was going through a major internal reformation. The group was starting numerous projects, especially within the greater spawn region, and was becoming much more build-driven with an emphasis on community efforts. By late March 2022, ostrich1414 had a desire to build in the old architectural style known as Imperial Architecture, which he had used at past bases, like Quinsigamond. Teaming up with fellow Wilburian TuataraBoots, the two decided to start a secret OOW base, with the concept in mind being a small, lowkey town by the water. Upon settling in a coastal spruce biome, the two settled on the name "Fern Springs".
As TuataraBoots had no knowledge of how to build in the Imperial Architecture style, the one and only building constructed on the property was built by ostrich1414 as a tutorial for TuataraBoots to learn and follow along with. The original intention for the project was that the two would begin by constructing a few small buildings on the property, and over time, slowly invite more Wilburians to it. However, Fern Springs would ultimately end up remaining a secret and obscure OOW project between the two of them, up until the time of writing this article. This was primarily due to the sudden abandonment of Fern Springs: ostrich1414's original motivation for the project had drastically deteriorated, and TuataraBoots was becoming increasingly more involved with other projects. Simultaneously, bigger and better projects were being undertaken by the OOW, and Fern Springs did not truly fit in with their plans. Nearly as soon as it was started, Fern Springs was abandoned by both ostrich1414 and TuataraBoots, and sat virtually untouched for months until ostrich1414 and Laztec visited it in late September 2022.
While the history behind Fern Springs is short and abrupt, it remains intact and serves as an obscure footnote in modern Order of Wilbur history. There are no future plans to continue work on the town, and it will likely sit abandoned and inactive for months, or years, to come. With only one constructed building on the property, and a few chests on a small nearby island, Fern Springs is one of the OOW's only forgotten duds.
