Dragon Eggs

According to the official Minecraft Wiki, the "dragon egg is a decorative block or a 'trophy item', and the rarest item in the game" ([1]). The dragon egg only drops once the ender dragon is defeated for the first time in a newly-generated End dimension; as such, it is rather common for most survival multiplayer servers to only have one dragon egg in existence. Even when the ender dragon is respawned after the initial defeat, dragon eggs do not spawn, making it a highly coveted, rare item.

On SimPvP, however, there exists more than one dragon egg, and there are arguably two categories in which the existing dragon eggs occupy: organic eggs and artificial eggs. There exist three organic dragon eggs on SimPvP that were obtained through vanilla Minecraft gameplay, while the rest have been artificially obtained through various exploits and glitches.

On August 9th, 2020, the admins decided that the intentional abuse of glitching in these artificial dragon eggs was a jailable offense, thus ending the pursuit for "unoriginal" eggs (the full announcement can be viewed here: [2]).

History

The Organic Eggs

Currently, there exists three dragon eggs naturally obtained through vanilla Minecraft gameplay; these eggs are owned by Rumpslem, clipchip and MisterStrawman. While in general, you can only obtain a dragon egg one time in vanilla survival Minecraft, SimPvP has had two End resets, which meant that the ender dragon was completely reset and reconfigured back to its original state. This meant that, aside from the first time, there have been two other moments where it was possible to defeat the ender dragon and obtain a dragon egg naturally.

While there are no recorded dates documenting when the first three dragon eggs were obtained, it is generally believed that Rumpslem acquired the first dragon egg (post-map reset) in 2011. RevStoningpot and clipchip would soon acquire the other two dragon eggs following the two End resets, although RevStoningpot would not possess this egg for too long: in 2018, he put his dragon egg up for auction and ended up selling it to MisterStrawman for around $50 USD. Today, these three original eggs are privately held as rare trophy items, either on display or safely locked away in an ender chest, arguably making them some of the rarest items on SimPvP.

It is also worth noting that, due to the fact that only three dragon eggs had existed for many years, the Minecraft advancement "The Next Generation" was an extremely difficult, sometimes impossible, advancement for many players to get. Since the dragon egg could not naturally be obtained anymore, the only way to hold the dragon egg and get the advancement was by one of the three original owners letting you hold it. Of course, this was extremely rare, since a large amount of trust and safety was placed around the eggs, and their high prestige led the owners to reject any offers. One of the few examples of the advancement being obtained in later years was in 2017 when ostrich1414 successfully persuaded Rumpslem to let him hold his dragon egg momentarily.

The First Artificial Egg

From 2011 to 2019, there only existed the three organic eggs. However, this would change in 2019, where the first known, documented case of an artificial dragon egg coming into existence occurred. AntHand and egnaroky utilized a dragon egg fabrication glitch, respawning the ender dragon and successfully obtaining a dragon egg. Since this was a glitch exploit and not entirely vanilla, AntHand and egnaroky were immediately questioned by the admins, although they were eventually allowed to keep their egg on the condition that they did not share it, sell it, or give it to anyone else.

AntHand and egnaroky's possession of the server's first known artificial dragon egg sparked much controversy among the player base at the time, many of whom were angered by the prospect that such a rare item was being devalued through this glitch. Nevertheless, by 2019, there were four dragon eggs in circulation on SimPvP.

The Dragon Egg Crisis of August 2020

In early August 2020, while respawning and fighting the ender dragon, seventwoworlds and PANOSKYLO unintentionally discovered a glitch that allowed them to obtain a dragon egg. This new glitch was far more simple to perform than the one that AntHand and egnaroky had used, and would soon influence a wave of players to attempt to try and obtain one themselves. As seventwoworlds and PANOSKYLO were awaiting word from the admins as to what they should do with their dragon egg, Burger_Malone figured out the exploit and successfully glitched a dragon egg for himself. Soon after, more players began to do so: ostrich1414 and Zepheron both glitched in artificial dragon eggs, as did _Goujon_, 4Pilot, and SkullerG, all within the span of about three days. Furthermore, the players obtaining these artificial dragon eggs were not only gaining the "The Next Generation" advancement, but were allowing their friends or close players to hold the eggs as well and obtain the advancement. Truly, a dragon egg crisis was in the midst.

This sudden wave of dragon egg possession caused a massive controversy on the server: many players were furious that the dragon egg, once one of the rarest items on SimPvP, was now being immensely devalued and watered-down to a common item. Furthermore, many were nervous that, aside from the known players who glitched the egg, there could be many, many more glitched eggs throughout the server, unknown to the public. This would greatly decrease their value and make them practically worthless. Of course, some players supported it, viewing the dragon egg as a useless item and enjoying the prospect of being able to own one themselves without begging the original three owners to hold it.

On August 9th, 2020, the admins announced that "the exploitation and abuse of the dragon egg glitch is now considered duping and anyone caught using this glitch to obtain a dragon egg will be jailed for violating Rule #2". This made the intentional glitching of dragon eggs a jailable offense, and immediately curtailed any new players from doing so. Later, on September 30th, players who owned these glitched eggs were ordered to destroy them, preferably under admin supervision. Presuming that nobody kept any of their illegal eggs hidden, there once again remain just four dragon eggs in existence.
