Gosnold was a city founded by ostrich1414 and AntiFreezeFluid on August 21st, 2021. Located on an isolated island not far from spawn, Gosnold served as The Order of Wilbur's latest major spawn project, with the sole intent of differentiating itself from previously homogenous spawn builds. Gosnold's goal was to establish itself as a megacity, akin to Yittrium and Quabbin, in the greater spawn region, and to bolster community building efforts among the Order of Wilbur's members.

On October 1st, 2021, Gosnold was severely griefed by the "Operators"--OperatorUltra, OperatorLucid, and OperatorDeimos. Although the Order of Wilbur had anticipated an inevitable griefing of Gosnold, they were surprised to see that the Operators had completely removed a majority of the city's buildings, reverting much of the island to its original natural terrain. During this grief, a small fight broke out between the Operators and YeeterMyPeeter.

Members

Although Gosnold was a base founded and administered by The Order of Wilbur, they had invited several players from the Church of Francis and GS Trading Co. in association with the G.S.F.W. alliance. Below were all the members of Gosnold, from their respective clans:

History

Ambitious Beginnings

The Order of Wilbur has had a lengthy history of projects around the greater spawn region of SimPvP, but, like most other spawn builds, they were largely similar in aesthetic and design. Due to the fact that spawn builds are historically temporary, constantly being griefed and/or raided due to their easy accessibility, many players who build around spawn opt for using easy-to-gather materials like stone, stone brick, cobblestone, wood, etc. However, ostrich1414 had wanted to construct a more unorthodox spawn project for years, and with the rise of the Order of Wilbur orienting itself towards more construction projects, as well as the recent abandonment (and later grief) of São Porco, its capital city, he chose to move forward with these plans and establish the Order of Wilbur's newest project.

Joined by his real life friend and fellow Wilburian AntiFreezeFluid, the two settled on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean far out in the greater spawn region on August 21st, 2021. Wanting to make their new spawn city unlike any other that had come before, it, the two settled on the idea of constructing it in the style of ostrich1414's other previous cities, most notably cities like Yittrium and Quabbin in terms of architecture and city planning. Of course, a city of this size and material value within the spawn region was a risky and ambitious plan, likely to be griefed, but this did not dissuade the two from beginning construction. They eventually settled on the name "Gosnold", the name of an island town in Massachusetts that just so happened to have the smallest population in the state (an inside joke towards the city's size and geography).

Shortly thereafter, ostrich1414 made the coordinates to Gosnold public for all members of the Order of Wilbur. DakkaDok, Korijenkins, and MoWobbler (all on alt accounts) were quick to arrive, with the former two contributing greatly to the city's expansion. While ostrich1414 focused on building his signature roads and concrete skyscrapers, DakkaDok terraformed the nearby bay into a harbor, completed with a sea wall, docks, and piers. Korijenkins, meanwhile, began work on a cabin akin to one he had made at a previous Wilburian spawn city, Riverwood.

By early September 2021, Gosnold was growing into a more established city, with the unique characteristic of being located within the spawn region's expansive ocean. Already containing a farm, storage facility, hotel, and a fully-formed road system, the city was blooming into something seen at many previous iconic SimPvP cities.

Opening Up to the G.S.F.W.

Although Gosnold had remained a solely Wilburian spawn project at first, the team soon decided to invite other members of its budding super-alliance, G.S.F.W. The first non-Wilburian to join Gosnold was LidGuy, on behalf of the Church of Francis. LidGuy would contribute much to the city's growth, establishing two skyscrapers and assisting with terraforming and inventory management. Meanwhile, ostrich1414 and AntiFreezeFluid would continue to develop the city's skyline through new skyscrapers.

Eventually, more Wilburians and other members of the G.S.F.W. would arrive to the city. Willowienal became the latest Wilburian to make major progress at Gosnold, using a nearby island to construct an immense stone statue of Jesus Christ. Shortly afterwards, 4Pilot would arrive on behalf of GS Trading Co., and Lord1, xexc, and MrDavid99 on behalf of the Church of Francis. Lord1 would create the city's first Francillian temple, as well as the very first temple in the city. Xexc, meanwhile, would clear large amounts of land on the island and assist with major terraforming progress.

Even for those who were not building at the city, Gosnold became a major tourist attraction for many Wilburians, arriving at the city to view its progress--and indeed, progress was coming. By late September, the city had bloomed into something larger, arguably already becoming one of the largest cities in the greater spawn region. With several skyscrapers dotting the island, a smooth road plan, and several megaprojects on the way, Gosnold was becoming one of the Order of Wilbur's greatest feats, and the very first team effort for the new G.S.F.W.

Sharp Rise and Early Demise

Up until the end of September, Gosnold was growing rapidly, with members of the Order of Wilbur and the Church of Francis all contributing to its expansion. Xexc would construct the city's tallest and largest skyscraper, while ostrich1414 would work on the city's first Wilburian temple. LidGuy, meanwhile, would construct yet another skyscraper on the premises, and even chipinazo would arrive to start one of his own. Willowienal would continue work on his immense Jesus Statue, although this would sadly never be finished. Nevertheless, Gosnold had reached its peak in both size and productivity; for a spawn base only a few thousand blocks away, it was massive.

Unfortunately, Gosnold's lifespan would be cut severely short. While the Wilburians had long anticipated the inevitable griefing of the city due to its distance from spawn, and even welcomed it, they were surprised to see just how brutal the grief would be, and by whom. On October 1st, 2021, the "Operators"--OperatorUltra, OperatorLucid, and OperatorDeimos--arrived at Gosnold and began completely dismantling the city's buildings, block-by-block. Rather than a traditional grief using TNT or lavacasts, the city was reverted to its natural terrain, as though nothing had ever been built there. The Operators managed to clear roughly three-quarters of the city before they were suddenly interrupted by several different players, most notably 1590283112, vv101zeli, 4Pilot, and jake276493. While 4Pilot worked to lavacast the remaining skyscrapers before the Operators could remove them, 1590283112, vv101zeli, and jake276493 engaged in a large battle against the Operators on the island. While OperatorUltra would end up fleeing from the scene after 1590283112 killed OperatorLucid, OperatorDeimos was able to secure a kill on vv101zeli. A video of the battle can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-zXuM7nt7w

Eventually the battle would result in an inconclusive draw as the players scattered from the city, leaving a sparse island behind with a few skyscrapers covered in lavacasts and a number of craters produced by end crystals and respawn anchors. The only major building to truly survive the grief was willowienal's Jesus Christ statue, although even this remained unfinished. Despite is rapid growth and promising potential, Gosnold's progress was cut short and now sat as a husk of its former self, its building count severely reduced to only a few cobblestone-covered skyscrapers. Regardless, as the city was a spawn base after all, and the risk factor was always high, the Wilburians and Francillians considered this project a fun time, redefining what future spawn bases could look like and serving as a bonding point for the G.S.F.W. group.
